Scott Gerson taught how to find our pulse and use a 'count' (pulse wave) to determine which Dosha was the predominant type. Here is a very simplified video showing how its done.

Pulse Diagnosis

When you go to see an Ayurvedic practitioner, one of the first things that he or she will do is to assess your pulse. An Ayurvedic practitioner uses the pulse in a much different way than traditional pulse reading. In a pulse reading, three fingers are used, and each finger to feel how much a dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) is active in your physiology.

The most subtle Dosha is Vata. It is felt with the index finger. Pitta is felt with the third finger; it is liquid and substantial in nature. Kapha is felt with the ring finger - it is heavy and slow in nature. The practitioner feels for these qualities, and also the underlying subtle qualities that lie beneath each dosha. An experienced practitioner can get a lot of information just from your pulse!

Triphala has been reported to cause weight loss and to be useful in anemia, jaundice, constipation, cough asthma, fever, chronic ulcers, leucorrhea and pyorrehea. Tprphals is a a very potent free radical scavenger and has anitioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Great colon tonic!

Ashwagada promotes vitality and strength and is good for Vata or Kapha Doshas and helps to alleviate stress.

Guggulu cleanses unhealthy tissues, increases the white blood cell count. It has traditionally been recommended to clear the sinuses of congestion, relieve chronic skin disorders, treat obesity, shrink swollen glands and cool inflamed joints. It is fascinating how medical science is now validating many of the traditional uses for this ancient herbal medicine.

Shatavari improves the production of breast milk in nursing mothers, is used in inflammatory conditions and to soothe irritated tissues. Shatavari has a cooling influence may also benefit the hot flashes of women going through menopause. Shatavari is beneficial in cooling off an irritated digestive system as expressed by heartburn, diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome IBS

Neem purifies the blood and removes toxins from the intestines which allows any aggravated skin conditions such as acne, rashes, eczema and psoriasis to subside and the cooling of any burning or itching. Neem has anti-septic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal qualities make it a potent herb used to eliminate a wide range of infection. It treats tapeworm, ringworm &diarrhoea.

Jatamamsi Rasayana May help with sleeplessness, muscle spasms, uterus spasms, nervousness, shaking, headaches, stress, dizziness and balance. It is a vata or air balancing tonic.

Mahanarayan oil is warming to ease muscle and joint discomforts. Put it in places that feel stiff, empty in order to warm circulation. Put it on the top of your arms to send blood circulation to your tired face.

According to Ayurveda, middle age is the pitta stage of life, a time when responsibilities, stress, and the intensity of daily life can be at their peak and further provoke pitta. Healthy Pitta helps calma the mind, soothe fiery emotions and support a cooler, more balanced temperament.

Healthy Pitta (pills made by Banyan Botanicals) is a soothing blend of herbs formulated specifically to balance pitta dosha without aggravating vata or kapha. It may be used year-round by those with pitta constitutions to support overall health and well-being. Healthy Pitta may also be used by any constitutional type that is experiencing a temporary pitta imbalance. For those with a dual constitution that includes pitta or a tridoshic constitution, it is an excellent formula for pitta season, which in most parts of the world is summer. The heat and brightness of summer tends to aggravate pitta. Healthy Pitta contains herbs that cool the system, helping the body to remain healthy throughout the season.
